My first Ipsy Experience

Ipsy glam bag

I finally decided to subscribe to Ipsy, and also received my first Ipsy Glam Bag. In this article, I want to share my first Ipsy experience and also provide some insights on Ipsy. This article is based on my personal experience and is not affiliated with any beauty brands or Ipsy itself. Before we get to the part where I will share my first Ipsy experience, let’s learn about Ipsy.

What is Ipsy?

Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service. You have to pay a monthly subscription fee, and you will get Ipsy Galm Bag every month which is based on the Beauty Quiz you take while creating your account. So, all the subscribers will not be receiving the same beauty products. Instead, the glam bag products will be personalized for each subscriber. Beauty quiz is a quick quiz, which is designed to know more about your skin tone, skin type, eye color, hair color, beauty preferences, the brands you are inclined towards, etc. It will also ask for information like what kind of products you use more, and what type of products you would like to receive more or skip.

How much does Ipsy Membership cost?

Ipsy has three membership options. All three options have different objectives and subscription costs.

Ipsy Glam Bag:

Cost: $12 per month

Ipsy Glam Bag is for beginners who are interested in learning more about make-up and are ready for some experimentation. Or, for someone like me, who does is not a makeup junkie yet, but does some makeup. You will get a glam bag and five beauty products based on your beauty quiz. All the products that you receive will be deluxe size, except beauty tools and products like sheet masks. Every month members will have the option of selecting one beauty product of their choice. Also, the value of this beauty bag will be $50+.

Ipsy Glam Bag Plus:

Cost: $25 per month

Ipsy Glam Bag Plus is for people who are more inclined towards makeup, and someone who uses makeup products on a regular basis. With this subscription, you will be receiving a drawstring glam bag with five full-sized beauty products. And again, the products are based on the information provided in the beauty quiz. With the Ipsy Glam Bag Plus subscription, the member can choose 3 beauty products. So, you will definitely be receiving three products of your choice with this membership. The value of this bag is $120+.

Ipsy Glam Bag X:

Cost: $50

This, Ipsy Glam Bag X is the ultimate bag for makeup-obsessed people out there. Like the other two subscriptions, you will be receiving a themed glam bag with this one as well. With this subscription, you will be receiving eight full-sized beauty products and four deluxe samples. Products you receive will again be based on the quiz taken. With this, you will be able to choose one of the 8 full-sized beauty products. Glam Bag X is worth $250+.

Why did I decide to join Ipsy monthly subscription?

I wanted to try out one of the beauty subscriptions, just to see how it works and if I will like it or not. Or, just to check if it is for an average makeup product user like me or not. I started checking out Ipsy due to its popularity. And, I saw Michelle Phan as one of the founders of Ipsy. I am her huge fan, which obviously inclined me towards Ipsy. Also, Ipsy is one of the oldest beauty subscriptions, so I decided to give it a try. Among the three subscriptions offered by Ipsy, I went with the Ipsy Glam bag subscription because I am not a person who does makeup on a daily basis. And with the Covid-19 pandemic around, we don’t even get to go out much, which means more of no-makeup days. Another reason is Ipsy Glam Bag costs only $12, which is minimum based on the products that will be sent.

My First Ipsy Experience

I joined Ipsy in January 2021 and received my first Glam Bag in February 2021. Even though I had the option of selecting one beauty product of my choice, I skipped it. I wanted all the products to be a surprise for me. And, was eagerly waiting for my glam bag and was excited to unbox it. I have an article on my February 2021 Ipsy Glam Bag unboxing, which has details on the products I received and my opinion on the February 2021 Glam Bag that was personalized for me.

I definitely had a lot of fun unboxing my Glam Bag, and getting to know about the product and the brands. My bag had products of brands that I had known and used, brands that I had no idea existed, and brands that I had heard about, but never used. So, it was good to have this mixture of brands and products. I did like some of the products I received but was not really excited about some of the products. Among the five beauty products and tools I received, I used two of them immediately. They were quite impressive, and my expectations were met. I remember that I had selected or stated that I am inclined towards Cruelty-free beauty products in the beauty quiz. I ended up receiving all the products that were from brands that produce Cruelty-free products, which made me happy. My overall first Ipsy experience was OK.

Overall Verdict

Overall, I think Ipsy Glam Bag subscription is a good deal. I paid $12 and in return received products of $50+ value. Anytime I feel like I am receiving products that I don’t want, I can take the beauty quiz again, hoping that there will be some change in my next glam bag. If I don’t want the glam bag any month, I can easily skip it for that month. Also, there is no commitment on the subscription and I can cancel at any moment I feel like I don’t want to carry on with the subscription.
