Once a baby starts teething, parents have to start looking for different ways to calm down a fussy baby, as well as help relieve the sore gums. There are many dos and don’ts that you should be aware of while trying to help your baby. One of the things that can sure help a teething baby is a teething toy or a tether.
There are hundreds of teething toys and teethers available in the market. It is important to buy the right teething toys and teethers for your baby rather than collecting tons of them. You need to find the right teething toys, as many teething toys does not mean fast relief for the baby. Also, these are a must-have item in the baby registry and a great gift for new parents.
Top Teething Toys and Teethers
Based on reviews from thousands of parents and my personal experience, I have created the following list of the top 10 teething toys and teethers. These have been helping babies relieve their sore and itchy gums:
Its cool textured surface soothes and stimulates sore gums. The teething nubs can help massage tender gums. The bright colorful shapes stimulate your baby visually and also help with eye-hand coordination.
The Nuby Teethe-Eez BPA-Free super soft silicone teether’s unique textured design provides comfort to the baby’s delicate gums. It also provides stimulus to the lips and tongue and assists in the eruption of new teeth.
The circular design is easy for small hands to grasp and hold. For cool comfort, chill in the fridge. But don’t freeze these as contact with extreme cold can cause harm.
Sophie la giraffe is one of the most seen teething toys in the baby registry. This teething toy is full of discoveries and activities to awaken the baby’s senses. She is perfect for soothing a baby’s sore gums when teething. Her squeaker keeps the baby amused, stimulates hearing, and helps the baby to understand the link between cause and effect.
The mesmerizing loop design and lightweight construction make it very easy for little hands to grab, hold and rattle – a perfect clutching toy to engage baby’s gross motor skills. The soft, pliable loops of this teether are perfect for teething or gumming babies.
This teether helps babies to use their mouth and tongue muscles in fun ways, with two easy-to-grip handles. The end of the carrot has a textured finish, meaning this sensory teether is suitable for developing your child’s understanding of flavors, temperatures, and textures.
This toothbrush teether gently massages little teeth and gums with soft silicone bristles, which helps develop good oral hygiene habits early. It has easy-to-grasp banana peel handles and is made of 100% flexible silicone to prevent mouth injuries.
Mombella Mimi mushroom teether is super soft for newborns. Breast+nipple shape design makes baby feel secure to suck on.
It is both a fruit feeder and a teething toy. The All-IN-1 feeder soothes the baby’s teething discomfort by massaging the gums through chewing.
The RaZberry teether is a soft silicone teether constructed of one single piece, whose multiple textures are specially designed to soothe your baby’s sore gums.
Some things to note:
I did not include any teethers which can cause strangulation, like necklaces, bracelets, or anklets. These impose risk on babies, in my opinion. Also, teething toys with soothing gels that can be applied directly to the gums also did not make it to my list. I have not been comfortable using gels that are easily available over the counter and not been recommended by healthcare professionals.
